Back soon with more...

Thank You and Merry Christmas!

Tuesday, December 22, 2015

No card today...just a few words to thank you for all the kindness you've extended over the past year. I wanted you to know how much each and every one of you that continue to follow me on my artistic quest is truly appreciated!  When I look back over the years of blogging, the one constant is the genuine kindness extended to me by my fellow artists.  And for that, I am truly blessed!  You are what drives this blog.  You make me want to continue to learn and grow as an artist.  Thank you for that!

Wishing each and every one of you the merriest of Christmases and may you all bask in the love of family and friends over the holidays.

I'll be sharing some of my favorite cards from the past year over the next week or so, and as always...back soon with more my sweet friends...

With heartfelt thanks,

Tim's Tag December 2015

Friday, December 18, 2015

My last Tim's Tag of 2015...where did the year go?

Here's Tim's amazing tag for December:

12 tags of 2015 - December | www.timholtz.com

And mine looks nothing like it :)  I was inspired to use some old and some new Tim's stuff.  No burlap left in my stash so stamped a textured background to simulate burlap and then stenciled the background with his Hollybough stencil.

Made the poinsettia with his Tattered Poinsettia die and added texture with his Bubble Wrap embossing folder.  Used some Multi Medium Matte with Distress Stickles Dry Glitter to add a bit of sparkle.  Used the "25" from his Plaquettes and added some Yuletide Fasteners to it and the Linen Ribbon.  Lots of old Idea-ology products make up with tassel under the poinsettia.  My sentiment is one of the Christmastime Flashcards that's been inked up a bit.  Also, you'll see a piece from the Festive Ephemera Pack down the right side.  Whew!  That's a lot of Tim stuff!

Had a blast making my tag and hope to do all 12 in 2016!

Anchored Special Stamp Release

Wednesday, December 16, 2015

It's time for another STAMPlorations stamp release hop.  This week we are featuring the new Anchored set by Dee's Artsy Impressions.

I randomly stamped both of the anchor images to create my background.  Both the large anchor and the life preserver were stamped in archival ink and then water colored.  Next I used a Copic marker to edge both the anchor and the life preserver, and added a bit of Wink of Stella.  That's what you might call the softer side of mixed media :)  Not obvious, but indeed still mixed media :)  Both elements were then fussy cut. I stamped one of the many options for sentiments on a little tag and then stamped the heart over top with Distress Ink. A little cheesecloth and a few stars complete the card.

Here's how the hop works:
  • comment on this post
  • visit the rest of the designer's blogs and the STAMPlorations blog and comment on  the featured project(s),
  • commenting closes Friday, December 18 at 11:55 p.m. Pacific
  • one randomly picked commenter will win the set with the winner announced Sunday, December 20
  • And, for one week only (till December 23), Anchored is available at 10% off - (that's $10.80 instead of $12)

Get inspired by checking out the amazing Design Team projects here.  Don't forget to comment to win!

Something Other Than Christmas

Tuesday, December 15, 2015

Just sharing a quick and easy wedding design I created earlier this year during my time on the Dirty Dozen over at Splitcoaststampers.

Used the stencil monoprint technique with three shades of Distress Inks and my ARTplorations Old Rose Prints to create the background.  Added a bit more sponging in all three colors and then added some water droplets.

When that was dry I stamped the image and sentiment from STAMPlorations Newlyweds and then painted the bride's dress with H20s.

Happened to find the butterfly rhinestones in my stash...they worked perfectly :)

Leftovers

Monday, December 14, 2015

No, not the food kind :)  This is a leftover background from my Holiday Coffee Lovers design last week.  Not wanting to waste my Distress Inks and Inka Gold left on my craft mat... this is my "mop up" paper.  It was flicked with water and then dried.

And, speaking of flicking, after the tree was stamped, I flicked  on some thinned white acrylic paint for a snowy effect.

Very simple and easy to do if you're still trying to get some cards completed!

The tree is from Penny Black...one of my oldest and yet still favorite stamps, and the sentiment is from Verve.

Stencil Sunday Funky Fa La La Tag

Sunday, December 13, 2015

Hello, creative lovelies!  I'm back with another Stencil Sunday project!  And, since I'm still working on my Christmas tags that's my focus for today :)

Would love to have you join us for the challenge this month.  As always, it's an anything goes challenge that must be a mixed media piece...tags, art journal pages, home decor, etc....anything but a card.  The winner will receive a $15 STAMPlorations gift certificate or 2 ARTplorations stencils. And the top picks receive an ARTplorations stencil of their choice.

I started out by sponging some white craft ink through the ARTplorations Christmas Trees stencil and when that was dry, I added more color with silver and gold markers.  The star is from Oh My Stars! and I just used the gold marker for that.  The edges were lightly sponged with white ink and then I added a border with the gold marker.  The snowy look was created with the edge of a spatula and the white craft ink.  There's more gold marker on the seam binding.  The tag was completed with a sentiment from the STAMPlorations Joyful stamp set.

More inspiration can be found right here.

ARTplorations Stencil Blog Hop - Day 5

Saturday, December 12, 2015

It's day five of the ARTplorations Stencil Blog Hop.  This is our final day for the hop.  To check out what the rest of the Design Team has for inspiration click on the graphic below.

Stencils are such a versatile way to add so much interest to a card or project.  Here's just one more way to use a stencil.  Embossing!  You can use any type of stencil for this and it's easy to do on paper or as I've done today on a sheet of craft metal.  Here's the order for the "sandwich" in a Big Shot machine...Tab 1, one of the plates, paper or metal, a stencil, a thick embossing pad, the other plate. You can try different thicknesses of paper to see what gives you the best impression.

Once I embossed the metal with the ARTplorations Holly Background stencil, I then randomly added some silver Inka Gold.  Next I added some Stickles to the berries. The sentiment is from STAMPlorations Joyful, one of my favorite stamp sets for Christmas sentiments :)  It's all been placed on some silver glitter corrugated paper for lots more sparkle.

Prizes:
  • FIVE (5) winners will receive their choice of ARTplorations stencil (standard size - 5x7). Winners will be randomly drawn from all comments left on the designers' blogs.
  • ONE (1) winner will receive a $15 gift certificate OR her choice of 2 ARTplorations stencils (standard size - 5x7). Winners will be randomly drawn from comments left on the STAMPlorations blog.
Extra prizes for those who participate in the Flash Stencil Project Linky Party and link up by December 13:
  • TWO (2) winners whose projects feature stencils (any brand) will each receive their choice of one (1) ARTplorations stencil (standard size - 5x7)
  • ONE (1) winner whose project features an ARTplorations stencil will receive her choice of three (3) ARTplorations stencils (standard size - 5x7) OR a $15 gift certificate to the shop.

ARTplorations Stencil Blog Hop Day 4 and Coffee Lovers Blog Hop

Friday, December 11, 2015

It's day four of the ARTplorations Stencil Blog Hop.  You'll find all the deets on the Stencil Blog Hop right here, as well as lots of amazing inspiration from the Design Team.

What's better than one blog hop?  How about two?  It's time for the Holiday Coffee Lovers Bloghop thanks to the amazing Amy Tsuruta!  Hope you can join in the fun...lots of prizes!

I was going for a sort of "northern lights" feel on this.  The background was made by smooshing three Distress Inks on my craft mat and adding in some Inka Gold before I misted it with water. Then I just dragged my watercolor card stock through it.  Great technique, inspired by my sweet friend, Loll! She has a tutorial here using just the Inka Gold.  I am totally in love with this color combo:)

Next, I added some white crackle paste through my ARTplorations Coffee Cup stencil and let it dry. The sentiment was curved to mimic the roundness of the coffee cup.  There's a lot of very subtle shimmer on this from the Inka Gold, the Frantage encrusted jewel kit and the clear mini beads...wish you could see it in real life :) The final touch...some snowflake brads I've had in my stash forever.

Stencil Blog Hop Prizes:
  • FIVE (5) winners will receive their choice of ARTplorations stencil (standard size - 5x7). Winners will be randomly drawn from all comments left on the designers' blogs.
  • ONE (1) winner will receive a $15 gift certificate OR her choice of 2 ARTplorations stencils (standard size - 5x7). Winners will be randomly drawn from comments left on the STAMPlorations blog.

ARTplorations Holly Background stencil and stamped the sentiment when it was dry.  Added some Stickles for th Prizes:

ARTplorations Stencil Blog Hop - Day 1

Tuesday, December 8, 2015

We've got a Stencil Blog Hop happening this week!  Are you up for a blog hop with prizes?  Click on the link to see what rest of the team has in store for you and get all the deets on how to enter.

The background for my tag was made by stamping some of the STAMPlorations Mixed Media Elements stamps with archival ink and then smooshing my tag through some Distress Paints.  Once that was dry, I used translucent embossing paste and the ARTplorations Holly Background stencil. When I lifted the stencil off the tag, I quickly added lots of glass glitter and tapped off the excess.  ou won't get real definition with a chunky glitter and a stencil...but still love the look!

Easy peasy sentiment with some washi tape and the only embellie is some hand-dyed seam binding to match the tag.

Stencil Sunday and December Mixed Media Challenge - Christmas Tag

Sunday, December 6, 2015

Hello, it's time for another Stencil Sunday project and mixed media challenge.

Would love to have you join us for the mixed media challenge this month.

Well, my mind's on Christmas these days...so had to get some tags done!  I started out by stamping the background of my tag in acrylic paint with some of the elements from the STAMPlorations Mixed Media Elements set.  Before I went any further, the stamps were washed quickly with mild soap and water to make sure there were no traces of acrylic paint left.  Missing this step can be disastrous to your stamps!

Next it was heat set and then I sponged on three shades of Distress Inks and added more texture with some water droplets.  Once that was dry, I added some gold embossing paste through the ARTplorations Christmas Trees stencil.  Before it was dry, I sprinkled some small glass beads over the paste and pressed lightly with a spatula.  I shredded the ends of my ribbon and scrunched it up for some added interest.  The sentiment is from STAMPlorations Joyful.

Mixed Media Card Challenge - Celebration

It's December!  Wow!  And my celebration for the challenge - Christmas of course :)  and I've managed to use the optional element too!

The challenges run from the 1st to the 25th of each month, with the winners announced on the last day of the month.  To play along, simply create a mixed media card and enter it at the Mixed Media Card Challenge.  Be sure to check out the cards from the rest of the Design Team!  So much inspiration!

New to mixed media?  Simply combine two or more mediums on your card.  So many choices: watercolor, gesso, acrylics, distress inks, pencils, crayons, Copics, other inks and on and on...

Pretty simple design...I've stamped some elements from the STAMPlorations Mixed Media Elements set in gray archival ink.  Then the ARTplorations Christmas Trees stencil was heat embossed in white.  Next I mixed up some white acrylic paint with water and splattered it all over the card to create a snowy effect.  The sentiment has been stamped on some vellum and for a pop of color...a Tim Holtz Mirrored Star that's been colored with alcohol ink.
