Giving Thanks Blog Hop

Wednesday, November 25, 2015

The STAMPlorations girls have a special blog hop today celebrating Thanksgiving:

How the blog hop works:

  • Comment on this post.
  • Visit ALL the designers' blogs and comment on their featured project(s).
  • Commenting closes on Friday, November 27, 11:55 p.m. Pacific (GMT-8).
  • We'll randomly select a winner of a stamp set (winner's choice!) from comments left on all the blogs and announce it on Sunday, November 29.

Here's how my card was made.  I stamped the background script from STAMPlorations Mixed Media Elements in gold ink and heat set it.  Next I rubbed a little brown archival ink into the large leaf stamp from Trendy Leaves before it was inked with some Hero Arts rust colored ink.  The sentiment is from the Dee's Artsy Impressions set called Frames & Flowers.  Some splatters of gold and a few sequins and done!

Wishing all my American friends and family a very Happy Thanksgiving!

Peaceful Scene

Monday, November 23, 2015

What ARE they looking at?  That's the first thing that crossed my mind after I completed this card.

This is my final card as a guest designer over at the Splitcoaststampers color challenges.  I've had such fun doing this...thanks so much to the team for inviting me!

The colors we are working with this week are Watermelon Wonder, Tip Top Taupe and Chocolate Chip - and the dessert option is to use a die cut or a punched element.

I did some reverse masking with some Distress Ink and then stamped the trees and the sentiment. The deer are from Memory Box...they were watercolored and also inked with a couple of shades of Distress Ink.  After seeing some tags in Loll's tag event using some Stampendous Frantage...I dusted mine off and used that for the snow.  Funny how there are things in your stash that you forget to use until someone jogs your memory :)

Create Art Every Day

Thursday, November 19, 2015

Time to share another one of my cards from my time on the Splitcoaststampers Dirty Dozen.

It has layers of paper, stamping, translucent embossing paste, acrylic paints, beads and just about everything but the kitchen sink :).  And to finish it off...some Tim stuff.

Of course, if there's time, who doesn't want to create art every day?

Tim's Tag November 2015

Wednesday, November 18, 2015

My take on Tim's November tag.  Lots of wonderful ideas again, from THE man this month :)  I love the textured background he created!

TAG-PINTEREST

The background on my tag was made in similar fashion.  You'll find all his instructions at the above link.  I created the background with some Distress Paint and the Weathered Textiles stamp. Next came some added color with Distress Sprays.  I stamped one of the background stamps from French Marketplace and quickly rubbed it with a cloth to smudge it slightly for an aged effect.  The edges of the tag were inked with Brushed Corduroy Distress Ink and then per his instructions I added some Transfer Foil.

The leaf was made with Craft Core Metallic paper and the Layered Leaf set which includes an embossing folder.  Added some shades of alcohol ink and also distressed it with my sanding block. Then it was scrunched up in my hand for more texture.  I  added a bit of the Transfer Foil to it also.

For the final touches, a few stickers from his Small Talk collection and a bit of his Linen Ribbon. Not totally satisfied with my picture.  One of these days, I'm going to take a photography class!

One Layer Christmas Card Challenge #22

Tuesday, November 17, 2015

I'm back with another One Layer Christmas card challenge.  The challenges are always one layer, always anything goes. As always, the challenge is to create a one layer card only and if you use the optional twist, you'll be entered into the monthly random drawing.  Each card = one entry, so feel free to enter often to increase your chances to win.

Here's the theme for the challenge:

Added some Distress Inks to my watercolor paper, stamped the Sweet 'n Sassy image and sentiment before adding some "snow" through a stencil.  Another really simple and easy design to mass produce if you're coming down to the "crunch time" with your Christmas cards.

Check out the cards from the rest of the Design Team right here.

SCS Color Challenge

Monday, November 16, 2015

Hello!  I'm sharing my guest designer cards for the Splitcoaststampers color challenge this week.  The colors we're working with are Cherry Cobbler, Soft Sky and Wild Wasabi, and our dessert option this week is to make two cards...one CAS and one more fussy.

My CAS design starts with a soft watercolor wash in blue.  Next I inked up my Penny Black tree stamp with the green ink and spritzed it lightly with water before stamping, and then added the sentiment from Verve and a crystal star.

Basically the same steps for the more detailed card...but I added several layers of the blue for the background.  Using the same technique on a separate sheet of watercolor paper, I then die cut the Tim Holtz tree and added some Finnabair Snowflake Paste.  The little PTI cardinals were cut out of Cherry Cobbler and the same crystal stars were used for a bit more sparkle.

Twelve Tags of Christmas with Loll & Friends 2015

Wednesday, November 11, 2015

Welcome to Day 8 of the Twelve Tags of Christmas with Loll & Friends!  Loll is such a talented designer and such a sweet person and I feel blessed to call her friend.  This is the second year for Loll's tag event with 25 guest designers sharing some mixed media inspiration.  If you haven't been following along with all the tags to this point...check them out here.  And there are prizes...yes prizes! Hope you can find some time to enter!

I likely should have called this tag "go big or go home".  The base tag is a #12 tag (that's 5 1/8" x 10 1/2").  Someone's going to get a very large gift this year *grin*.

The tag was covered in some Prima designer paper and the edges were distressed.  Then I added some gold embossing paste through a Prima stencil.  The next size tag was treated in the same manner.  Once everything was dry, I started putting it all together,  again lots of Prima products here...flowers, trim, Finnabair Mechanicals, little tags etc.  Then I added some splatters of Prima Color Bloom in two different shades.  Micro beads and mica flakes were added randomly for even more shine/bling.  I've dyed some cheesecloth and some seam binding for the top of the tag and also added a little metal star for the finishing touch.

Here are a few close-ups to show some of the detail:

Loll, thank you so much for inviting me to your fun tag event...I'm honored to be among all the amazing designers you've chosen!

Noel Reindeer - OLCCC Reminder

Tuesday, November 10, 2015

Just a quick reminder - you've still got another week to join the One Layer Christmas card challenge:

The challenges are always one layer, always anything goes and this week's optional twist is "reindeer". As always, the challenge is to create a one layer card only and if you use the optional twist, you'll be entered into the monthly random drawing. Each card = one entry, so feel free to enter often to increase your chances to win.

I'm all about quick and easy Christmas cards and this was done in under 10 minutes.  Just added paint to my stamps - the reindeer was done in two colors, while the sentiment was just one color.  Then a cute little red nose with Stickles and done!  How's that for fast?

Joyful Poinsettia

Monday, November 9, 2015

It's my second week as Guest Designer over at the Splitcoaststampers color challenge.  We are playing with Tempting Turquoise, Primrose Petals and Real Red.  I've used similar shades of Distress Inks.  And for dessert this week...a tag.

The background has added texture.  It was made by dry embossing some designer paper with a Tim Holtz embossing folder and then gently running some Distress Ink over it.

I've added Distress Inks used as watercolor to a torn manila tag that's been stamped with the poinsettia.  For a bit of sparkle, there's some Wink of Stella on the entire poinsettia and some Stickles on the center.  A little bow and Tim Holtz charm complete the tag.

Stencil Sunday Christmas Tag

Sunday, November 8, 2015

Hello, creative lovelies!  Time for another Stencil Sunday project!

Looking for a quick and easy tag to make...here it is.  Using my Oh My Stars stencil, I inked up my tag with Versamark and added clear embossing powder.  Once that was done, I used my Christmas Reindeer stencil with some silver embossing paste. Left the antlers smooth, but took my spatula and added texture to the rest of the reindeer.

The "joy" sentiment was stamped on a punched circle and added with some foam tape for more dimension.  Just happened to have some seam binding the same color, so that finishes off the tag.

Would love to have you join us for the challenge this month.  As always, it's an anything goes challenge that must be a mixed media piece...tags, art journal pages, home decor, etc....anything but a card.  The winner will receive a $15 STAMPlorations gift certificate or 2 ARTplorations stencils. And the top picks receive an ARTplorations stencil of their choice.

One Layer Christmas Card Challenge #21

Tuesday, November 3, 2015

I'm back with another One Layer Christmas Card Challenge.  Can you believe it's November?  Wow! Where did the year go?  It seems the older I get, the more quickly the years go by :)

Here's our theme for this challenge:

The challenges are always one layer, always anything goes and this week's optional twist is "reindeer". As always, the challenge is to create a one layer card only and if you use the optional twist, you'll be entered into the monthly random drawing. Each card = one entry, so feel free to enter often to increase your chances to win.

Added some Distress Inks to my watercolor paper complete with splashes.  The rest is just simple stamping.  The Penny Black deer stamp is one I've had for ages...and still one of my faves!   I faded out the dots under the partial stamping of the Clearly Besotted sentiment, just as the watercolor fades to that side.  Quick and easy to duplicate if you are needing to mass produce some cards...

Canvas Flowers

Monday, November 2, 2015

I'm a Color Challenge Guest Designer over at Splitcoaststampers this month.  The colors this week are Rich Razzleberry, Old Olive and Soft Suede; and for dessert...make a "thank you" or "Thanksgiving themed card.

Played with some canvas resist fabric from Prima today.  I first stamped the Penny Black "Charming" image in black archival ink and dried it with my heat gun.  Then I added color with Prima Berry Wine Color Bloom, as well as Peeled Paint and Brushed Corduroy Distress Inks.  Again, I dried that thoroughly with my heat gun.  Next, the edges were distressed with a distressing tool and more ink and I added bits of Peeled Paint Distress Stickles to the leaves.

The sentiment was stamped in archival ink onto some tissue paper and adhered to the card with some matte gel medium.  I left some of the edges lifted to add to the "distressed" feel of the card.

STAMPlorations Stencil Sunday and November Mixed Media Challenge

Sunday, November 1, 2015

Hello, it's Stencil Sunday and the start to another Mixed Media Challenge!  It's a two post day, so it would be great if you scrolled down and checked out my Mixed Media Card Challenge design too :), or you can check it out right here.

I've made a 12 x 12 canvas this time 'round with the new Happy Flowers (Large) and Leaf Bliss ARTplorations stencils.  These new stencils will be available in the shop very soon..a larger format... 8" x 10.5"...be still my heart!  I can never get enough of my Happy Flowers stencil and now it's even bigger!  And the new Leaf Bliss...sigh...I adore leaves...

The stencils have been used with light modeling paste and allowed to dry.  Then I used some Verday paints to give a rusted metal and verdigris effect.  Added some shading with a Stabilo pencil and some highlights with a PITT artist pen.

Mixed Media Card Challenge #17

I'm back with another Design Team card for The Mixed Media Card Challenge.   And since it's a two-post day, I also have my STAMPlorations Stencil Sunday project to share with you here.

And here's the theme for the month:

The challenges run from the 1st to the 25th of each month, with the winners announced on the last day of the month.  To play along, simply create a mixed media card and enter it at the Mixed Media Card Challenge.  Be sure to check out the cards from the rest of the Design Team!  So much inspiration!

New to mixed media?  Simply combine two or more mediums on your card.  So many choices: watercolor, gesso, acrylics, distress inks, pencils, crayons, Copics, other inks and on and on...

Most of my cards are created on the fly.  I grab something and play with it.  This started with three shades of Distress Inks and my ARTplorations Holly Background stencil.  Just sponged them on until I liked the result.  Hmmm, what next??? Grabbed some painter's tape and masked off the bottom.  Then I added some pigment ink using the "direct to paper" method...not really wanting a solid look...more streaky.  The strip was heat embossed with clear ink.

OK, needed something else...let's do a wider strip, but a lighter color at the top.  So that was done the same way.  How fortuitous that I happened to have a stamp that uses the word "family" and has some arrows on it...lucky me :)  And finally, I added some micro beads that I recently received from my sweet friend, Loll.  Thank you, Loll!!!
