HOLIDAY EXPRESSIONS: Yuletide Cheer Mini Hop

Wednesday, September 30, 2015

It's time for another STAMPlorations mini hop.  This week we are featuring the new HOLIDAY EXPRESSIONS:  Yuletide Cheer set, just in time for you to start on those Christmas cards!

When I first saw the set, I was immediately drawn to the sweet little gingerbread cottage.  It was stamped and masked before using both the Holly Background ARTplorations stencil and the X Marks the Spot ARTplorations stencil.  Added a little snow to add to the festive feel and done!

And then, I wanted to do another card with that sweet wreath.  Don't you just love those skates?

This card is all about removing color.  I inked up the background with three shades of Distress Inks and then placed my Holly Background ARTplorations stencil over top.  Then, I misted it lightly with water and removed some color.  Next, I stamped the image and sentiment on the card and then removed more color from the skates with a tiny brush, some water and a paper towel.  It highlights the skates beautifully without coloring them.  The final step was to add some inky smudges around the wreath to add a bit more depth.

Here's how the mini-release blog hop works:

  • comment on this post
  • visit the rest of the designer's blogs and the STAMPlorations blog and comment on   the featured project(s),
  • commenting closes Friday, October 2 at 11:55 p.m. Pacific
  • one randomly picked commenter will win the set with the winner announced         Sunday, October 4

And, for one week only (till October 7), Yuletide Cheer is available at 10% off - (that's $10.80 instead of $12)

Check out the amazing Design Team projects here.  Don't forget to comment to win!

One Layer Christmas Card Challenge #18 Reminder

Tuesday, September 29, 2015

Just a quick reminder...you still have another week to get your One Layer Christmas Card Challenge entry in.  That's an extra week this time around...bonus!!!

The challenges are always one layer, always anything goes and this week's optional twist is "mistletoe".  As always, the challenge is to create a one layer card only and if you use the optional twist, you'll be entered into the monthly random drawing. Each card = one entry, so feel free to enter often to increase your chances to win.

A really quick and easy card to make.  I've dusted off some of my oldest stamps for this one. The Penny Black tree image was inked with three shades of Distress Inks, misted and stamped on the watercolor paper.  A simple stamped sentiment and a couple of shades of Stickles finish the card.  My photo doesn't show the Stickles very well, but the tree has red on it and the star some gold on it.

Fall Coffee Lovers Blog Hop

Friday, September 25, 2015

Whoo hoo!  It's time for the Fall Coffee Lovers Blog Hop!

11638805_10207927413971348_1249712840_o

A great big thanks to Amy, Chaitali and Kimberly!  And thank you to all the amazing sponsors. Want to join in the fun?  Here's the link.

Although I'm not a coffee lover, I love participating in this blog hop...so many amazing designs from so many talented artists!

With the leaves turning all sorts of stunning colors here right now, there's lots of inspiration outdoors these days.  I've started by making a monoprint with my ARTplorations Coffee Cup stencil and some Distress Inks. Next, I added a little more inky goodness randomly with the same colors.  Then I spritzed the paper with water and blotted it.

Next, my stencil was inked up with Encore gold ink and heat embossed in gold.  Then I stamped the leaves from STAMPlorations Trendy Leaves in Archival Ink using both first and second generation stamping.  Since I was adding a black sentiment, a few leaves were stamped in black Archival Ink for continuity.

Dare to Dream

Wednesday, September 23, 2015

In love with some of the new Distress Inks this year...and was messing around with some color combos.  I really like this one!  It's Twisted Citron, Mermaid Lagoon, and Blueprint Sketch.

I've partially heat embossed the ARTplorations Nestled Circles stencil with clear embossing powder. Then using the direct-to-paper method, added my three colors and spritzed it with water.  Next, I came back in with the same three colors and some stamps from the STAMPlorations Mixed Media Grunge set.

And, finally...the sentiment which is one of the STAMPlorations Subway Art Builders called Dare.

Some People...

Thursday, September 17, 2015

Just popping in with another card from my time on the Splitcoaststampers Dirty Dozen.

After adhering bits of washi tape to some watercolor paper, I added some Distress Inks to my craft mat and dragged the paper through it.  Then I dribbled more of one of the colors onto the paper.  It was then die cut and stamped.  For the final step...the charms.

One Layer Christmas Card Challenge #18

Tuesday, September 15, 2015

I'm back with another One Layer Christmas card challenge.

Yes, this is where I share my warped sense of humor with you.  When I saw all the "interesting" sentiments in this stamp set, knew it had to be mine :)

The background stamp (Stampington & Co. Wreath) was inked with three shades of Distress Inks and spritzed with water before stamping it on watercolor paper.  Once it was dry I stamped the sentiment and then added some white mistletoe berries with White Opal Liquid Pearls.

Check out what the rest of the Design Team has in store for you right here.

Denim Charger

Sunday, September 13, 2015

It's Stencil Sunday over at STAMPlorations!

Don't you just love a bargain?  I found this denim charger for 79 cents!!!  Yay!

First off, I added a layer of clear gesso to seal the denim.  Next I used some black archival ink through the Leaf Prints ARTplorations stencil.  Then I added some acrylic paint through the Christmas Trees stencil...just using the bottom part of the trees.

The Flutterby stencil was used with some Copper Inka Gold and I also just smudged some here and there with my finger.  The entire rim of the charger was also rubbed with the same Inka Gold.  For a little more depth, I added some of the Trendy Butterflies in another shade of archival ink.

The final step was to add some wording from the Bold Sentiments:  Believe set.

A fun project to make for sure!  Here are the links to all the ARTplorations stencils and the STAMPlorations stamp sets I used:

Let Us Be Grateful

Tuesday, September 8, 2015

Sharing one of my favorite cards from my time on the Splitcoaststampers Dirty Dozen.  A heat embossed image, then color added with Brushos and watercolor...

I'm taking a bit of a break these days...so you'll likely see more of my DD cards over the next few days :)

Imagine...without limits

Sunday, September 6, 2015

Time for another Stencil Sunday project!

Would love to have you join us for the challenge this month.  As always, it's an anything goes challenge that must be a mixed media piece...tags, art journal pages, home decor, etc....anything but a card.  The winner will receive a $15 STAMPlorations gift certificate or 2 ARTplorations stencils. And the top picks receive an ARTplorations stencil of their choice.

This was some mixed media paper that I used to clean off my stencil from another project...it left some wonderful texture on the paper!  It was covered with a layer of gesso and then I did some background stamping.  Next comes some light modelling paste through my Foiled ARTplorations stencil.  Why light modelling paste?  I really like it as it dries quite quickly compared to some of the other pastes.  Next I added some color using the direct-to-paper method with some Distress Inks and then wiped away the excess with a baby wipe.

Then comes a layer of crackle paste through my Bloom Silhouettes ARTplorations stencil.  I used what I'd call a medium layer to ensure there was some cracking. Next, I dyed some seam binding with the same Distress Inks and crinkled it.  Finally, I stamped the sentiment in archival ink and cut it out.

Here's what I used:
Paper:  mixed media
Inks:  Distress Inks and Archival Inks
Stamps:  STAMPlorations Mixed Media Grunge and Imagine
All the other stuff:  ARTplorations Old Rose Prints, Foiled and Bloom Silhouettes stencils, light modelling paste, spatula, Antique Silver Crackle Art Extravagance Texture Paste, seam binding, Distress Markers, Tim's Tiny Attacher, Tim Holtz Tags & Bookplates die

Tim's Tag September 2015

Friday, September 4, 2015

Had some play time today and wanted to make my September Tim's tag.  Have you seen his tag for this month?  Swoon...

12 tags of 2015: September | www.timholtz.com

I followed his directions for the alcohol ink background, but of course, wanted to do my own thing color wise.  And although I love the swirl stencil he used...again, wanted to do my own thing.  Yes, I do dance to the beat of my own drum!

The size of the overlay was made smaller, as I wanted the color on the background tag to show. And, I stamped the same image on the tag as is on the overlay.

Since I didn't have the frosted product he used, I stamped the dragonfly on some Wendy Vecchi Clearly for Art Modeling Film and added some Distress Crackle Paint to give it a similar effect.

A fun tag to create...love the techniques and will use them again!

Here's what I used:
Paper:  #8 Ranger Tag and Specialty Stamping Paper; and misc. black card stock
Ink:  Ranger Jet Black Archival and Twisted Citron Distress Ink
Stamps:  Tim Holtz Stampers Anonymous Classics #1
All the other stuff:  alcohol inks, alcohol blending solution, clear modeling paste, Tim Holtz Burlap stencil, spatula, Wendy Vecchi Clearly for Art Modeling Film, Distress Crackle Paint, seam binding, Mini Ink Blending Tool, brads, foam adhesive

Hello, My Friend

Just popping in to share another card from my time on the Dirty Dozen.

The background was done with Brushos.  Next, I heat embossed the Fred Mullett Spadefish in green. And then, I used a Stencil Girl stencil with embossing paste to make the "reeds".  A simple heat-embossed, stamped sentiment from MFT and done!

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

One Layer Christmas Card Challenge #17 - Heart Holly

Tuesday, September 1, 2015

I'm back with another One Layer Christmas card challenge.  The challenges are always one layer, always anything goes and this week's optional twist is "family".  As always, the challenge is to create a one layer card only and if you use the optional twist, you'll be entered into the monthly random drawing.  Each card = one entry, so feel free to enter often to increase your chances to win.

When I think of family at Christmas, it's all about everyone being together...hence my use of this sentiment.

Using the ARTplorations Holly Background stencil and my Distress Inks, I used the stencil monoprint technique for my background.  Love the soft colors with that stencil! A simple stamped sentiment and some scattered heart hollyberries and done!

Check out the fabulous inspiration from the rest of the Design Team right here.

Here's what I used:
Paper:  Strathmore 140# watercolor paper
Ink:  Distress Inks and Archival Inks
Stamps:  Quietfire Designs, Simon Says Stamp
All the other stuff:  ARTplorations Holly Background stencil

Mixed Media Card Challenge #15

I'm here with the September Mixed Media Card Challenge.  Can you believe it's the first of September? Where did the summer go?

Here's our challenge for the month:

I'm not much of a ribbon person, so no optional element for this girl :)

The challenges run from the 1st to the 25th of each month, with the winners announced on the last day of the month.  To play along, simply create a mixed media card and enter it at the Mixed Media Card Challenge.  Be sure to check out the cards from the rest of the Design Team!  So much inspiration!

New to mixed media?  Simply combine two or more mediums on your card.  So many choices: watercolor, gesso, acrylics, distress inks, pencils, crayons, Copics, other inks and on and on...

My card starts with some mixed media paper that's been prepped with gesso.  Next I used some light modelling paste through my Old Rose Prints stencil.  When that was dry, I stamped the text stamp from Mixed Media Grunge on top of some of the roses.  Then comes a couple of colors of acrylic paint and some glitter.

Here's what I used:
Paper:  mixed media, vellum and Neenah Solar White
Stamps:  STAMPlorations Mixed Media Grunge and Rosebuds (The Bee's Knees)
Ink:  Jet Black and Magenta Hue Archival inks
All the other stuff:  ARTplorations Old Rose Prints stencil, light modelling paste, spatula, acrylic paints, glass glitter, soft matte gel
