Hello Beautiful!

Sunday, August 30, 2015

The amazing Shery, owner of STAMPlorations, has given birth to a beautiful baby girl.

The team is throwing a little celebratory hop.  Check out all the cards from the Design Team and feel free to join in the festivities and add a card to the hop right here.

Sherry and David, we are so happy for you!  Welcome, baby Kathryn!

I went a little (ok a lot) vintage with this one.  It all started out with a piece of designer paper.  I added some thinned down gesso, some ink sprays, and some acrylic paint.  When that was dry, I used the Old Rose Prints stencil with some light modelling paste.  Then a bit more ink spray and acrylic paint on top of that.  I distressed the edges heavily and added a row of ribbon roses to complete the vintage feel.  My sentiment comes from Bloom Sketches  and BOLD Sentiments:  Hashtag Authentic.

Congratulations and big hugs, Shery!

Go After Your Dreams

It's my turn for another Stencil Sunday project.

I created this after seeing a pillow on a tv show.  Funny where you find your inspiration...

This is 5.5" x 8" journal that I've just started.  For those of you new to journaling, you might like to try this size journal...

I've taken some Distress Ink directly to the paper and then misted it with water.  Next, I used the same color of Distress Ink through the Weathered Wood stencil.

A mixture of heavy gesso, a re-inker and some acrylic paint created my paste for the Happy Flowers stencil.  Before it was dry, I added some glass glitter and beads.

And finally, the sentiment...a rather important reminder don't you think?  Go after your dreams...

Just today and tomorrow left to enter the monthly Mixed Media Challenge for your chance to win at $15 STAMPlorations gift certificate or any 2 ARTplorations stencils.  The top picks will receive their choice of an ARTplorations stencil.

Here's what I used:
Art journal, Hickory Smoke Distress Ink, Jet Black Archival Ink, re-inker and acrylic paint, Prima glass glitter and beads;  and

Sharing another one of my Splitcoaststampers Dirty Dozen designs from earlier this year.

This was a different sort of process than a stencil monoprint.  I partially inked up my stencil with some Distress Inks, misted it and then placed it on the watercolour paper.  Then, it was lifted, I added a different color of Distress Ink, misted it and carefully placed it on the watercolour paper again, making sure that it was in the same spot (or close). This was repeated one more time.  Then I added a few water dribbles and finished the card.

Here's what I used:
Paper:  Ranger watercolour and Bazzill Marshmallow
Inks:  Distress and Archival
All the other stuff:  Stencil Girl stencil, twine, wood heart.

Shirley's PartyDresses

Wednesday, August 26, 2015

STAMPlorations has a special release this week...it's party time featuring Shirley's PartyDresses!  Is this not adorable?  Look at all the girly goodness here:

I used some Distress Inks and the ARTplorations Flourishes stencil to create my background with a stencil monoprint. Then the dress, belt and sentiment were stamped in archival ink.  I've cut out the little bow, colored it and popped it up with some foam adhesive. For a little added sparkle, a sprinkle of sequins, some Wink of Stella on the bow and done!

Here's how the mini-release blog hop works:
- comment on this post
- visit the rest of the designer's blogs and the STAMPlorations blog and comment on the featured project(s),
- commenting closes August 28 at 11:55 p.m. Pacific
- one randomly picked commenter will win the set with the winner announced Sunday, August 30

And, for one week only, PartyDresses is available at 10% off - (that's $10.80 instead of $12)

Check out the amazing Design Team projects here.  Don't forget to comment to win!

On the Wings of Love

Tuesday, August 25, 2015

I've had this idea in my head for awhile and finally created it.  I adore all things Prima...so I've been adding to my collection over several months.  It was time to pull a bunch of things out and actually do something other than collect!  It's only called hoarding if you don't use it right?  LOL

I was inspired by Finnabair's Art Recipe:  Timeless Patina.  Oh, that girl is amazing!  I was fortunate enough to spend two days taking her classes!  She was so inspiring, a sweet person and a wonderful instructor.

The project starts out with the Prima bike, that I added some random bits of Graphite Texture Paste to. When that was dry, I used my Fluttering Flowers stencil with more of the texture paste.  Then I started adding my elements...Sandra Evertson Archival Cast Chivalry (wings), and Flaming Hearts. Then came lots of Prima Mechanicals, beads, flowers...all added with Art Basics Modelling Paste. (Finn's hint to use a glue gun to attach the pieces before using the paste is pure genius.)

Once that was all dry, I coated everything in Art Basics Heavy Black Gesso.  Then the magic began...adding the shimmer and color.  First I used two shades of Inka Gold to highlight some areas. Then using some Art Basics Soft Matte Gel, I added Art Ingredients Glass Beads, followed by some glitter.

Here's a close up:

Such a fun project to make!  Might be my favorite piece to this point.  But it is so near and dear to my heart as it's a piece to commemorate our 40th wedding anniversary.  If you look closely you'll see the number 40 in a couple of places.

I'm entering it in the Mixed Media Place Creative Gym #11 as I've used Finnabair's Art Recipe: Timeless Patina as my inspiration.

Another Dirty Dozen Gallery Card - Thinking of You

Sunday, August 23, 2015

Hope you are having a wonderful weekend, everyone!

Just popping by with a quick post.  This was another of my Splitcoaststampers Dirty Dozen designs from earlier in the year.

So simple and so easy to do.  Just inked up my Hero Arts Forest stencil with three shades of Distress Inks, taking care to put most of the purple shade around the moon.  Spritzed it with water and dried it.   Easy right?

Day 5 - July Stamps Spotlight Week - Frames and Flowers

Friday, August 21, 2015

Hello, sweet friends!  It's our final day of the STAMPlorations July Stamps Spotlight week.  Hope you've had fun checking out all the fabulous inspiration!  Our Spotlight today is Dee's Frames and Flowers set.  I love all the elements in this sweet set...so many options!

preview-DAIFramesandFlowers

I placed three different shades of Distress Inks on my craft mat and misted with water.  Then I smooshed my tag through the puddles of ink.  After it was dry, I misted my craft mat with some color mist and added a bit of water before smooshing my tag through it again.  It has a lovely soft shimmer in real life.  I've used archival ink for the frames and the sentiment; as well as more Distress Inks for the flowers and butterflies, etc.

Leave a comment on my blog, as well as all the rest for a chance to win one of the prizes. Commenting closes August 23rd with the winners announced August 24th.  FIVE (5) commenters randomly drawn from the designers' blogs will each win the stamp set featured for the day. And ONE (1) commenter randomly drawn from the STAMPlorations blog will win a $25 gift certificate.

Check out what the rest of the team made! You'll find links to all our projects here.

One Layer Christmas Card Challenge # 16 Yuletide Cheer

Tuesday, August 18, 2015

It's time for another One Layer Christmas card challenge.  Can you believe it's just a little over four months until Christmas?  It's always an anything goes one layer challenge:

My background was made by smooshing my watercolor paper through various shades of Distress Inks and spray mists...mostly neutrals.  The tree was stenciled with one of the same inks and the snowflakes stamped in the same color.  I used my fingers to stamp to snowflakes...not so precise...just the way I like it :)

Check out the inspiration from the rest of the Design Team right here.

Here's what I used:
Paper:  Strathmore 140# watercolor paper
Ink:  Distress Inks and Archival Inks
Stamps:  STAMPlorations Joyful and VIGNETTE:  Christmas Block
All the other stuff:  Lindy's Stamp Gang mists, ARTplorations Christmas Trees stencil, sponge

Day 2 July Stamps Spotlight - Balloons & Banners

Hi, everyone!  It's Day Two of the STAMPlorations July stamps Spotlight Week and today, the featured stamp set is Balloons & Banners:

preview-DAIBalloonsandBanners

Stamps aren't just for paper...you can design home decor items, clothing, and a host of other things. My frame was a bargain and I really liked the neutral woodgrain background. Since I didn't want change that, it was covered with clear gesso.  That gives it some "tooth" to do the stamping.  Simple stamping in black archival ink and then heat set.  I've colored in the little ribbons on the balloons because I wanted more of the solid black color on the frame.

By the way, that's our beautiful border collie, Kizzy in the picture.  The picture is from a couple of years ago and I thought this frame would be perfect.  She is such a smart and loving girl! We are so lucky to have her in our lives.

Hi Friend!

Monday, August 17, 2015

I'm sharing a card from my Dirty Dozen work over at Splitcoaststampers.  Now that I'm an alumni I'm able to share some of my work with you.

I was playing around with trying to take a monoprint from an alcohol ink background.  It worked for me, so once that was done, I stamped the feather and chicken wire stamps in Distress Inks.  Then I added some translucent embossing paste through a stencil and let that dry.  The script image was stamped over top of the translucent embossing paste.  A few random splatters, a simple stamped sentiment and done!

Here's what I used:
Paper:  SU! and watercolor
Ink: Archival and Distress Inks
Stamps:  Verve, Tim Holtz, PTI, A Stamp in the Hand
All the other stuff:  alcohol inks, stencil, translucent embossing paste

Tim's August 2015 Tag - My Take

Thursday, August 13, 2015

Managed to find some time to do a Tim's Tag this month...yay!  Here's his amazing design for the month of August:

TAG-MAIN

I took a little more personal approach this month with my tag.  We'll be celebrating our 40th anniversary later this month, so that was my focus.

Love the technique Tim used for his background!  Although I used the technique, I chose a different color palette and incorporated elements that focused on the occasion.  And no, that's not us in the picture...we aren't quite that old *grin*.  It's from Tim's "Found Relatives"...I was so happy to see a wedding picture among all the images...it worked perfectly!

Here's what I used:
Paper:  Ranger manila tags
Ink:  Distress Ink
Stamps:  Stampers Anonymous Tim Holtz - Shabby French
All the rest of the stuff:  Tag & Bookplate die,  Celebration Words Thinlet dies, Shape Strips Thinlet dies, Melange Tissue Wrap, Adage Ticket, Numerals, Linen Ribbon, Heirloom Roses, Pocket Cards, Found Relatives, sponge,  Tiny Attacher, Monocles Findings, 2015 Typed Tokens, Small Talk. alchol ink, Matte Multi-Medium

One can never have enough birthday cards on hand, nor can there ever be too many butterflies on cards right *grin*?

I inked up my Shower of Flutters stencil with three shades of Distress Inks, spritzed it with water and placed it on my watercolor paper.  Once that was dry, I added gold ink through my Retro Circles stencil and then heat embossed with clear embossing powder.  The sentiment is from Happy Sentiment Builders.

A smattering of sequins and some gorgeous gold butterflies and done!  I recently found those little gold butterflies for a steal at our Winners/HomeSense store. Don't you just love a bargain?

More Garden Inspiration

Sunday, August 2, 2015

I'm back with another Stencil Sunday mixed media piece...again, my inspiration comes from my garden.  But please note...my flowers are not brown *grin*.

Would love to have you join us for the challenge this month.  As always, it's an anything goes challenge that must be a mixed media piece...tags, art journal pages, home decor, etc....anything but a card.  The winner will receive a $15 STAMPlorations gift certificate or 2 ARTplorations stencils. And the top picks receive an ARTplorations stencil of their choice.

This piece starts out by adding clear gesso to a piece of masonite.  Once that was dry, I added a piece of designer paper that was heavily distressed with a distressing tool and ink.  I also cut out little holes and added some drywall tape behind the holes before adhering it to the masonite.

Next comes some gesso, some light modelling paste through a stencil and lots of ink sprays. I used the colors from the designer paper to choose the ink sprays.  More stenciling with archival inks, distress inks and acrylic paints.  When using acrylic paints, it can get a bit messy (i.e. I can make it totally messy) and you don't always get a clean image, especially over pastes, etc., but in my mind that's completely ok!  It adds to the individuality of the piece.  As a final touch I added more sprays, acrylics and inks around the edges of the piece.

Check out all the amazing designs from the rest of the Design Team right here!
