Embrace Life

Just a quick reminder for the Mixed Media Card Challenge for July!

After covering my card base with clear gesso I did lots of background stamping with several STAMPlorations stamps.  I've used three different colors of archival inks.  Next came some heavy gesso through the ARTplorations X Marks the Spot stencil.  For more texture, I randomly added more of the heavy gesso with a spatula.

I used some Primary Elements Artist Pigment with water and a brush to add some color to the background.  The I added some microbeads with some gel medium for a bit of sparkle (you'll have to pretend you see this ok?).  I stamped the flowers and then did some messy watercoloring on them. The vase is a simple die cut that's been popped up on some foam adhesive.

Here's what I used:
Paper:  Strathmore 140# watercolor, misc. black and Neenah Solar White
Ink: Archival in Watering Can, Jet Black and Forget Me Not
Stamps:  STAMPlorations Rosebuds from The Bee's Knees, Trendy Butterflies and Noteworthy
All the other stuff:  ARTplorations X Marks the Spot stencil, clear gesso, heavy gesso, gel medium, Primary Elements Artist Pigment, distress markers, Finnabair microbeads, spatula, vase die, foam adhesive

Homage to a Candle

Tuesday, July 21, 2015

So happy to be getting my Christmas cards done well in advance this year :)  I'm back with another One Layer Christmas Card challenge Design Team card for you.  Here's our next challenge:

Had to put my thinking cap on, after looking through ALL my Christmas stamps.  Can you believe I don't have a single Christmas candle stamp?  And, believe you, me...I have a ton of Christmas stamps!!!

So, I thought about molten wax, and that was the beginning of this card.  I placed some acrylic paints on my craft mat and misted them with some color mists and swished my paper through that a couple of times.  Then when it was dry, I stamped the sentiment block twice to make it look like a candle. Then, using some gold paint and my Retro Circles stencil I added the illusion of a flame.

Check out the amazing inspiration from the rest of the Design Team right here!

Here's what I used:
Paper:  Strathmore 140# watercolor paper
Ink:  Ranger jet black archival ink
Stamps:  STAMPlorations Vignette:  Christmas Block
All the other stuff:  Silks acrylic paints,  Heidi Swapp color mist, Dylusions ink spray, craft mat, ARTplorations Retro Circles stencil, sponge

Focus to see the Light

Wednesday, July 15, 2015

Just a little reminder that there's still lots of time to join in the fun at the Mixed Media Card Challenge this month!

I've layered some papers, added some translucent paste through an ARTplorations stencil, stamped in five different shades of archival ink, and then added some mists.  The sentiment is such a wonderfully encouraging one "it is during our darkest moments that we must focus to see the light". That may be a hard thing to do some days, but it is so, so true.

Here's what I used:
Paper:  Neenah Solar White and Prima Engraver Collection
Ink:  Archival Inks in Jet Black, Cobalt Blue, Forget Me Not, Watering Can and Venetian Orange; and Walnut Stain Distress Ink
Stamps:  STAMPlorations Trendy Butterflies, TYPOgraphia:  Encouragement, Artsy Border Maker
All the other stuff:  translucent paste, ARTplorations Honeycomb Delight stencil, mists, spatula, distressing tool, sponges

Vintage Layout

Monday, July 13, 2015

I've never done any scrapbooking.  So when Finnabair's classes included two layout designs, I decided to jump in with both feet!  All the techniques can be used on cards, tags and really any sort of surface.

This is my favorite piece from all four classes.  I came away with so many ideas and look forward to putting them all to good use.

Thanks for letting me share this with you today my sweet friends...

Faded Hellos

Hello, everyone!  I'm back with another Stencil Sunday project with ARTplorations stencils:

It all starts out with a tag.  I've used archival ink through the ARTplorations Weathered Wood stencil. Next, I used a translucent matte gel through the  Bloom Silhouettes ARTplorations stencil and dried it.  Once that was dry, I placed my stencil back over the flowers and stamped the brick pattern from the Mixed Media Grunge stamp set through it.  It was done in a haphazard way, just with my fingers.

Next comes some layers of pastels, a layer of a wax medium, some spray mists and a bit of sanding. The sentiment is from VIGNETTE:  Celebrate Artsy.  The edges have all been distressed and inked also.

Finn-tastic Time

Saturday, July 11, 2015

LOL!  Don't you just love the title?  I did indeed have a Finn-tastic time in Edmonton at Scrap Addicts.

First off, if you have a chance to take some classes from the amazing Finnabair, just do it!  That girl is as sweet as she is talented.  I learned so many interesting techniques with so many different products...it was a blast! Totally awesome play time the entire two days.

And, thanks to Cori-Lynn and Ivy at Scrap Addicts for making me feel like one of the family.   You ladies rock!

This was one of the four projects I completed in the classes.  I might even share one or two more in the next week *grin*.

Feeling so blessed!  Back soon with more my sweet friends...

Stencil Sunday and Mixed Media Challenge #1

Sunday, July 5, 2015

Welcome to the first Stencil Sunday and Mixed Media Challenge.  I am SO excited to be part of this Design Team!  These challenges are always anything goes mixed media (not a card) using a stencil or stencils.  You'll find the challenge and all the fabulous creations from the rest of the Design Team right here.

After applying gesso to my canvas, I adhered some designer paper to my canvas and then applied a mix of acrylic paints and fluid matte medium.  When dry, I stamped some images from the Mixed Media Grunge set  in two shades of archival inks.  Next I added some light modeling paste and inked with more archival ink.  Then I added a couple of colors of color mists.   I've stenciled the largest butterfly from the Flutterby stencil with some metallic gold embossing paste and added more randomly with my spatula.

And to finish it off, I added the self-adhesive letters and a wide strip of gold washi tape.

Mixed Media Card Challenge #13

Wednesday, July 1, 2015

And here I am with my first Design Team card for the Mixed Media Card Challenge.  Yay!  Here's the theme for July:

The challenges run from the 1st to the 25th of each month, with the winners announced on the last day of the month.  To play along, simply create a mixed media card and enter it at the Mixed Media Card Challenge.  Be sure to check out the cards from the rest of the Design Team!  So much inspiration!

New to mixed media?  Simply combine two or more mediums on your card.  So many choices: watercolor, gesso, acrylics, distress inks, pencils, crayons, Copics, other inks and on and on...

Here's how mine was created.  I covered a piece of watercolor paper with gesso and let it dry.  Next I added several different shades of Gelatos, misted them with water and used a paintbrush to smoosh 'em around :)  When that was dry, I used some glass bead gel through my ARTplorations stencil.  Easy peasy background right?

The flower and wood veneer sentiment were spritzed with a color mist.  The little antique cloche was turned upside down to use as a vase.

Here's what I used:
Paper:  Strathmore 140# watercolor and Neenah solar white
Stamps:  none
Ink:  none
All the other stuff:  ARTplorations Retro Circles stencil, Gelatos, gesso, wood veneer, misc. flower, Lindy's Stamp Gang Starburst, Prima La Vie Antique Cloches, ribbon, adhesives
