Hello Flowers

Thursday, April 30, 2015

I'm playing along with a few challenges today...just having some fun!  And yet, another layered design...hmmm...

The sketch from Cardabilities was my jumping off point for this design.  After die-cutting the rectangle from designer paper, I added the circular designs with a Copic Multiliner and a round die. Thought it would be fun to add three types of circles!  Next comes some stamped splotches in turquoise.  A die-cut vellum stem, some die cut leaves, some Prima flowers, followed by more die-cut designer paper for the stamped sentiment.  And finally, a smattering of sequins.

It's always fun to step outside your comfort zone and just simply try different things.

Here's what I used:
Paper:  Simon Says Stamp, vellum and Prima Madelaine (in my stash forever)
Ink:  MFT Black hybrid and Avery Elle Aquamarine
Stamps:  MFT Abstract Art and Paper Smooches Fancy Frames
All the other stuff:  Big Shot Pro, Lil' Inker Stitched Rectangles (yes, I do use those a LOT!), circle die, Essentials by Ellen Bold Blossoms die, MFT die-namics Fishtail flags, Prima Archivist flowers, sequins, adhesives, Copic Multiliner

Dazzling Diva #73

Wednesday, April 29, 2015

This will be our final Dazzling Diva challenge, and our theme is spring/new life:

All good things must eventually come to an end and after much consideration Monica Weaver from Add a Little Dazzle has decided to close the Dazzling Diva Challenge. The blog and boutique will continue being open offering unique creations and Add a Little Dazzle Craft Metal Sheets. I invite you to continue following the Add a Little Dazzle blog.

Many years ago, I walked into our great room and look out the window into our backyard.  Two of our large ornamental crabapple trees were covered in Monarch butterflies.  You could hardly make out the trees for the Monarchs!  It was an amazing sight, and one that I shall cherish forever.  Sadly, my camera was out of commission at the time and I have no pictures to share...but I retain that amazing scene in my memory.

So with that thought in mind, here's my final Design Team card:

A simple design with a whole lot of butterflies :)  I've die cut the butterflies with my Tim Holtz Butterfly Frenzy die and then placed them in an embossing folder.  Instead of running them through my Big Shot Pro, I've just used a brayer to emboss them...works like a charm!

Here's what I used:
Paper:  Amy Tangerine Stitched and Neenah Solar White
Ink:  MFT Hybrid Black
Stamps:  My Sentiments Exactly
All the other stuff:  Big Shot Pro, MFT Fishtail Flags Layered STAX, Lil' Inker Designs Stitched circles die, Lil' Inker Designs Stitched Rectangle die, Tim Holtz Butterfly Frenzy Sizzlit Decorative Strip, Ectasy Crafts embossing folder, brayer, adhesives

Challenges entered:

Addicted to Stamps and More #142

Tuesday, April 28, 2015

I'm back with another Addicted to Stamps and More Challenge, and this week, it's a Make Your Mark challenge.  Get out those watercolor crayons or pencils, markers, Copics, Promarkers, chalks, watercolors, sponges, stencils, masks. (anything that makes a mark) to qualify for the prize.  This week our sponsor is A Day For Daisies:

and the prize is a $12 gift certificate

And here's my Design Team card:

I recently got this fabulous new stencil from ARTplorations and couldn't wait to ink it up!  The stencil has been inked with three shades of Distress Inks and misted with water before placing it on some watercolor paper.  I've inked a matching butterfly stamp with the same three inks, misted it and stamped the tag with it.  Next comes a bit of spritzing with a marker and finally a few sequins.

Here's what I used:
Paper:  Ranger watercolor and Neenah Solar White
Ink:  Dusty Concord, Cracked Pistachio and Mermaid Lagoon Distress Inks; and MFT Hybrid Black ink
Stamps:  STAMPlorations Trendy Butterflies and Bloom Sketches
All the other stuff:  Big Shot Pro, Lil' Inker Designs Stitched Rectangles die, Reverse Confetti Tag Me die, ARTplorations Shower of Flutters stencil, water mister, sequins, adhesives, Tim Holtz spritzer tool, Black Soot Distress Marker

One Layer Christmas Card Challenge #8 Reminder

Just a quick reminder that there's still time to play along with us at the One Layer Christmas card challenge:

All the challenges are "anything goes", and require a one layer design.  And, the optional twist with this challenge is "trees".  Using the optional twist will get you an entry into the monthly random drawing.  Every card that you enter with the twist = 1 entry into the drawing and you can enter as many times as you'd like!

And here's my one layer design featuring trees:

I've opted for some soft pastels this time around and used one of my favorite techniques - a stencil monoprint.  My stencil has been inked with three shades of Distress Inks, misted with water and placed on some watercolor paper.  After stamping the sentiment, I then added the snow.  Now, I've taken some serious artistic liberty with this snow, but if Prince can have "Purple Rain", then I think I can have "Lilac Snow".  LOL

Here's what I used:
Paper:  Strathmore 140# watercolor
Ink:  Aquamarine Archival Ink and Tumbled Glass, Shabby Shutters and Shaded Lilac Distress Inks
Stamps:  Verve Merry Wishes
All the other stuff:  TCW stencil, Simon Says Stamp stencil, Liquitex Blended Fibers, spatula

Awesome Life

Saturday, April 25, 2015

Found some time to play along with Tim's April 2015 Tag challenge.  Here are his fabulous tags:

mainimage

I've used the Persian Motifs from Altenew, as I don't have his new floral stamps.  And basically followed his instructions, using my own mix of colors.  He's showcasing the Distress Markers with his techniques this month, and that's exactly what I used.  And, as I didn't have his dies, again, used what I had.  Rather than use my sewing machine, I've done faux stitching around the tag.  This was fun and I really loved using my markers for his techniques!

Here's what I used:
Paper:  Ranger Distress Watercolor
Ink:  Ranger Jet Black Archival, Frayed Burlap Distress Ink
Stamps:  Altenew Persian Motifs
All the other stuff:  Ranger Kraft Tags; Scattered Straw, Spiced Marmalade, Rusty Hinge, Pumice Stone, Weathered Wood and Black Soot Distress Markers; Distress Marker Spritzer, water mister, die pick, mat, distress tool, Ranger mini ink blending tools, Lil' Inker Designs die, Big Shot Pro, adhesives, seam binding

One Layer Christmas Card Challenge #8

Tuesday, April 21, 2015

It's another "Anything Goes" challenge over at the One Layer Christmas card challenge blog today. And the optional twist this time around is trees.  Using the optional twist will get you an entry into the monthly random drawing.  Every card that you enter with the twist = 1 entry into the drawing and you can enter as many times as you'd like!

I've been building my supply of STAMPlorations stamps and ARTplorations stencils *big grin* so this quick one layer design immediately came to mind:

Did a quick watercolor wash across the background using my gelatos.  Once that was dry, I stenciled the tree with archival ink.  Then using my fingers, I inked and pressed a stamp through the stencil. Next, the sentiment was stamped in the same black ink.  A little bit of light modeling paste through another stencil in a few places and done.

Here's what I used:
Paper:  Arches Aquarelle watercolor paper
Ink:  Ranger Tree Branch archival ink and MFT Black hybrid ink
Stamps:  STAMPlorations Vignette:  Christmas Block and STAMPlorations Oh Christmas Tree!
All the other stuff:  gelatos, paint brush, ARTplorations Christmas Trees stencil, TCW stencil, light modeling paste, spatula

Dazzling Diva #71

Wednesday, April 15, 2015

I'm back with another Dazzling Diva Challenge and here's our fabulous inspiration for the week:

I love the gorgeous florals on the inspiration piece and here's where it took me:

I ended up using a piece of Golden Glimmer and marbling it with Inka Gold and PITT Artist Pen Big Brushes. You still get the gold coming through, but the marbled effect gives you yet one more option for working with the metals.

Here's what I used:
Paper:  Neenah Solar White and Amy Tangerine Stitched
Stamps:  Altenew
Ink:  My Favorite Things Black Hybrid Ink
All the other stuff:  Big Shot Pro, Lil' Inker Stitched Rectangles, Ellen Hutson Essentials by Julie Bold Blossom Stand-Alone, Inka Gold, PITT Artist Pen Big Brushes, sequins, adhesives and Add a Little Dazzle craft metal

Addicted to Stamps and More #140

Tuesday, April 14, 2015

We have some lovely inspiration for you today over at the Addicted to Stamps challenge blog!  Isn't this just fabulous?

This week our sponsor is Bugaboo Digi Stamps and they have generously donated 7 digi stamps to the winner!

The antiquing of the clock was what caught my eye:

A very simple one layer design today.  I've inked the floral stencil with Versamark and clear embossed the flowers.  Then the stencil was offset slightly and I inked it with some gray ink for a shadow effect.  Next I added a few more gray smudges.  A simply stamped sentiment and an embossed circle to mimic the clock faces and done!

Here's what I used:
Paper:  Neenah Solar White
Ink:  Versamark, Ranger Jet Black Archival and Memento Gray Flannel
Stamps:  STAMPlorations BOLD SENTIMENTS:  Hashtag Authentic
All the other stuff:  Big Shot Pro, ARTplorations Happy Flower stencil, sponges, clear embossing powder, heat tool, E.K. Success powder tool, Lil' Inker Designs Stitched circle dies

Dazzling Diva #70

Wednesday, April 8, 2015

It's Wednesday and that means it's time for the Dazzling Diva Challenge.  Here's a wonderful mood board that lends itself to so many interpretations:

Pretty easy to see that my focus was on the lower left corner :)

I've die cut some gray paper and added a strip of embossing paste through a stencil.  Then it's just a matter of adding the die cuts.  When I'm working with metal, I like to adhere it to some card stock before adding it to my card...it adds some stability and makes it really easy to glue it down, even when layering.

Here's what I used:
Paper:  Neenah Solar White and Echo Park Yours Truly
Stamps:  none
Ink:  none
All the other stuff:  Big Shot Pro, Tim Holtz Doily stencil, embossing paste, spatula, Winnie & Walter Big Bang Confetti Cutaways, Winnie & Walter In A Word Cheers Cutaway, adhesives, Elizabeth Craft Designs transparent double-sided tape and Add a Little Dazzle craft metal in the following colors:

One Layer Christmas Card Challenge #7

Tuesday, April 7, 2015

Hello everyone!  It's time for another One Layer Christmas card challenge...I am so happy to have a start on my 2015 Christmas cards thanks to this challenge :)  As always, it's an "anything goes" challenge and this time round...an optional twist of blue.

Well, if you haven't guessed by now...I LOVE watercolors and working with blue this week...well that happens to be another one of my faves!

This has been made using the Kuretake Gansai watercolors and some Brushos.  I cut down my watercolor card stock to 3 3/4" x 5 1/2" for a taller card this time.

Here's what I used:
Paper:  Strathmore 140# watercolor card stock
Ink:  Versamark
Stamps:  Quiet Fire Design
All the rest of the stuff:  Hero Arts white embossing powder, E.K. Success powder tool, heat tool, Kuretake Gansai watercolors, Brushos

Would love for you to play along!  Using the optional twist will get you an entry into the monthly random drawing.  Every card that you enter with the twist = 1 entry into the drawing and you can enter as many times as you'd like!

Light It Up Blue Blog Hop

Thursday, April 2, 2015

Hello, and welcome to the Light It Up Blue for Autism Awareness Blog Hop!  We have so many fantastic sponsors that have shown their support for Autism Awareness and you can see the complete list here.

If you would like a chance to win a prize from one of these fabulous companies, please leave a comment on this blog, as well as any of the other blogs participating in the hop today!  Winners will be chosen at random and will be announced on Monday, April 6th.

I've added this link for all sorts of great info on autism including research, fund raising and a whole lot of other information.

Here's my card for the hop:

I've started with a piece of watercolor paper that's been stamped with a houndstooth pattern.  I wanted more of a hit and miss look, so just partially inked up the background stamp and pressed it to my paper with my fingers instead of a stamp block or my MISTI.

Next, I stamped the poppy and then added some blue shades of  watercolor.  While that was still wet, I added in some more blues, this time with Brushos.  Once that was completely dry, I "painted" the flower with a light layer of Stickles.

The sentiment has been cut from white fun foam.  It adds such dimension and is just so easy to do. A smattering of blue sequins and done!

Here's what I used:
Paper:  Ranger watercolor and Neenah Solar White
Stamps:  Penny Black Poppy Time and MFT Houndstooth Background
Ink:  Ranger Watering Can and Jet Black archival inks
All the other stuff:  Big Shot Pro, Lil' Inker Designs Stitched Rectangles, Kuretake Gansai watercolors, Brushos, Stickles, sequins, adhesives, white fun foam, MISTI

Come join the hop...here's a peek at some of  the amazing sponsors:

Dazzling Diva #69 Some Bunny Loves You

Wednesday, April 1, 2015

I'm back with another Dazzling Diva Challenge.  Look at these cute little peeps :)  We are doing a color challenge this week.  Use any one or combination of the following colors on your card:

Can you tell I'm a sucker for these gorgeous stitched bunnies from Lil' Inker?  Don't they look wonderful in the craft metal?

I inked up my craft mat with three shades of Distress Inks and sprayed with water.  Then I dragged a piece of watercolor paper through it.  The clouds are die cut in felt and I've added some metallic thread behind the set of clouds.

These are stylin' bunnies in their metal coats and little black bows!  The metal has such an impact doesn't it?

Here's what I used:
Paper:  Strathmore 140# watercolor paper, Gina K. black card stock
Ink:  Ranger Jet Black Archival and Rusty Hinge, Broken China and Picked Raspberry Distress Inks
Stamps:  Clearly Besotted
All the other stuff:  Big Shot Pro, Lil' Inker Designs bunnies and bows die set, MFT die-namics cloud trio, MFT felt, metallic thread, adhesives and Add a Little Dazzle craft metals in the following colors:
