Shiny Heart Love

Thursday, August 28, 2014

Playing along with the CASology challenge this week...cue card is "letter".  What better than a love letter right?  And this one is for my sweet hubby...we're celebrating our 39th anniversary this weekend (yes I got married when I was 12 hehehe).  Seriously...where does the time go???

As soon as I saw the challenge I knew I wanted to use my Add a Little Dazzle Scarlet Red craft metal for the heart, and I knew I wanted to use these dies from Verve, so it came together very quickly.  The "U" is also die cut from the AALD craft metal, but it's in Dark Rich Chocolate which passes for black very nicely and has more of a matte finish which is so cool.  I also die cut some Ellen Hutson Craft-a-Board as backing for my die cuts...works beautifully with the craft metal!

Layered over a little cheesecloth and added the required smattering of sequins and done!

Add a Little Dazzle is the sponsor over at CASology this week, and up for grabs...a $25 Gift Certificate to their boutique.

Here's what I used:
Paper:  Bazzill Marshmallow
Ink:  none
Stamps:  none
All the other stuff:  Add a Little Dazzle Scarlet Red craft metal sheet, Add a Little Dazzle Dark Rich Chocolate craft metal sheet, Big Shot Pro, Verve I Heart You die set, Verve Wavy Hearts die set, cheesecloth, Tombow Adhesive, Simon Says Stamp sequins, Ellen Hutson Craft-a-Board

Challenges entered:
CASology 110:  cue card "letter" (layered CAS)
Simon Says Stamp:  anything goes

Dazzling Divas Challenge #40

Wednesday, August 27, 2014

It's time for another Dazzling Diva Challenge, and it's a color challenge this week...Pucker Me Pink and Outrageously Orange:

I've had this Julie Nutting doll stamp for a while, just waiting for the right time to ink it up.  Thought it would be fun for this challenge and easy to keep CAS.

First off stamped the image and sentiment in black.  Then stamped the top and skirt in StazOn onto the craft metal sheets.  I love working with these sheets...so many options for them, whether it be front and center like this design, as a beautiful metallic accent, or as a embossed background...so many options!

Once the skirt and top were fussy cut, I popped parts of them up with foam tape...the bottom of the skirt to add dimension and movement and her top, again to give dimension.  I just added a few sequins as I wanted the gorgeous metal to be front and center.

Here's what I used:
Paper:  Bazzill Marshmallow
Ink:  Ranger Jet Black Archival Ink and black StazOn
Stamps:  Prima Julie Nutting "Megan" and Simon Says Stamp Birthday Balloons
All the other stuff:  Add a Little Dazzle Pucker Me Pink craft metal sheet and Add a Little Dazzle Outrageously Orange craft metal sheet, Tim Holtz scissors, foam adhesive, ATG, Simon Says Stamp sequins, Tombow adhesive, tweezers.

Would love to see you join us for this fun challenge!  Use of  AALD craft metal sheets is not a requirement to play along, but we'd love to see you use them!  There is a $15 gift certificate up for grabs.  Add a Little Dazzle craft metals sheets are available here.

Sympathy Bokeh

Thursday, August 21, 2014

Saying goodbye to my sweet friend tomorrow will be tough...and of course I needed to get a card made for Susan's girls and son.  I saw a fabulous YouTube tutorial from Dawn over at WPlus9 called Bokeh Made Easy.  It was fun and not difficult to do at all.  Of course Dawn's versions are amazing...oh that girl is so talented!

So following her directions, I used two shades of watercolor paint to create my background, followed by stencilling the bokeh "dots" with white craft ink.  Next I die cut a feather and stamped it with some grey ink. Once that was dry, I stamped the sentiment in black.

There are nine sequins on this card, one for each of her beautiful grandchildren (see the one hiding on the feather?).  The feather has significance too...her family will understand.  Wanted to really personalize this for them.

Here's what I used:
Paper:  Ranger Watercolor Paper and Bazzill Marshmallow
Ink:  Watering Can and Jet Black Archival Ink, and Hero Arts Unicorn
Stamps:  PTI Feather Finery and Simon Says Stamp Flower Friend
All the other stuff:  cobalt and cobalt violet watercolor paints, brush, Big Shot Pro, PTI Feather Finery die collection, Simon Says Stamp sequins, Kool Tak clear foam adhesive, Tombow adhesive, tweezers

In Loving Memory of my Sweet Friend Susan

Wednesday, August 20, 2014

Hello all...it's not often that I break with my tradition of just sharing my cards and a few tidbits about life.  But things have changed this week.

My dear, sweet friend Susan, has lost her battle with breast cancer.  It's a nasty disease that has taken my mother, and many other relatives and friends, and friends of friends.   Today I remember all those that have gone before my sweet friend and sadly those who will yet succumb to this horrible disease.

And I offer hope to those still fighting...keep fighting girls...you are strong, resilient and able to kick cancer's ass.  PLEASE KEEP FIGHTING!!!

I'm sharing a picture of Susan in happier times with all her beautiful grandchildren.

Heaven shines a little brighter with a glorious new star...

Dazzling Diva #39 Challenge

So where did the summer go?  Although the kids aren't back to school here yet, it won't be long.  It's a back to school theme this week:

Thought a blackboard look would be fun for this challenge.  I stamped the image in Versamark on some black card stock and heat embossed in Platinum.  Next, the sentiment was stamped in white and then more ink was added for a chalky blackboard look.

The sweet little apple was stamped in Stazon which works so well with the craft metal sheets.  Once it was dry, I fussy cut it and added a leaf in green too. It was shaped with a stylus and then popped up with some foam adhesive to add more dimension. Then the letters were cut from the same red craft metal sheet.  The background has been stamped with two shades of Distress Ink.  I wanted to use mainly primary colors for this theme so that's how I made my color choices.

A few gold stars, a couple of sequins and done!

Here's what I used:
Paper:  Bazzill Marshmallow white, SU! Basic Black
Ink:  Versamark, Hero Arts Unicorn, Squeezed Lemonade Distress Ink, Chipped Sapphire Distress Ink, black Stazon
Stamps:  Lawn Fawn A Good Apple, WPlus9 Borders & Backgrounds 4
All the other stuff:  Big Shot Pro, MFT Highrise Lower Case Die-namics, Add a Little Dazzle Scarlet Red craft metal sheet, Add a Little Dazzle Garland Green craft metal sheet, Studio Calico gold stars, Pretty Pink Posh Christmas Mix sequins, Tim Holtz scissors, adhesives, sponge

Challenge:
Add a Little Dazzle Dazzling Divas #39:  back to school
Simon Says Stamp:  back to school

Would love to see you join us over at Add a Little Dazzle for this fun challenge!  Use of AALD craft metal sheets is not a requirement to play along, but we'd love to see you use them!  There is a $15 gift certificate up for grabs.  Add a Little Dazzle craft metals sheets are available here.

There's Those Blues and Greens Again

Monday, August 18, 2014

Don't you find that you gravitate towards some colors when designing cards?  These happen to be the first colors I grab; and if I don't stop myself they would find their way onto all my cards.  Sometimes I will make a concerted effort to put them back and try something else, but not today *smile*.

Playing along with a couple of challenges over at Splitcoast today, both of which call for stencils.

I placed the star stencil on my paper and then stamped the alphabet stamp through the openings in the stencil by just "walking" my fingers over the stamp.  Then, I used a mini ink blending tool to sponge two of the colors through the stencil over top of what I'd just stamped.

A simple stamped sentiment and some strategically placed sequins and done!  Strategically you ask?...well there were a couple of "uh ohs" on my card and magically the sequins came to the rescue...whew!

Here's what I used:
Paper:  Bazzill Marshmallow
Ink:  Peacock Feathers Distress Ink, Faded Jeans Distress Ink, Peeled Paint Distress Ink, Ranger Archival Jet Black
Stamps:  Wendy Vecchi from A to Z and Altenew Superscript
All the other stuff:  Dylusions stencil, Ranger mini ink blending tool, Simon Says Stamp sequins, Pretty Pink Posh sequins, adhesive

Challenges:
TLC495 Splitcoast Stampers stencil stamping

Dazzling Divas Design Challenge #38

Wednesday, August 13, 2014

It's time for our weekly challenge over at Add A Little Dazzle.  Here's our beautiful inspiration today:

I've stamped and heat embossed the image in white on some Distress Watercolor Paper.  Next, I took three Distress Ink pads and dabbed them on my craft sheet.  I "painted" the piece with water before dropping the colors onto the paper.

Then I added a "crinkled" frame from a Baby Blue craft metal sheet.  I punched the stars in the same color too!  And, for even more texture...some cheesecloth layered in behind.  A simple stamped sentiment and done!

Here's what I used:
Paper:  Nina Solar White and Distress Watercolor Paper
Ink:  Peeled Paint, Salty Ocean and Faded Jeans Distress Inks; Versamark and Versafine Onyx Black
Stamps:  Altenew Lace Up and Label Love
All the other stuff:  Add A Little Dazzle Baby Blue craft metal sheet, EK Success punch, cheesecloth

And just a reminder about the Altenew/Add a Little Dazzle Blog Hop.  Prizes are good right???

Copper Christmas Carols (second post of the day see below for Altenew)

Tuesday, August 12, 2014

It's time for another Addicted to Stamps and More Challenge...our theme this week is holidays.  My first thought is always Christmas when it comes to holiday challenges. Love making Christmas cards :)

Our sponsor this week is Rick St. Denis and up for grabs...three of his digis:

Hopefully, you're seeing my card as black with copper embossing.  This was fun a pain to photograph! Oh me, oh my it took more time to photograph than to create...seriously!  I love using sparkly things on my cards but they don't always translate well with the camera.  I'd love to hear how you manage to take pictures of cards like this...any little hint would be most appreciated!

A very simple card, easy to mass produce for your entire Christmas card list if you choose.  My focal image is 2.75" x 3.75".  It's been stamped in Versamark and heat embossed with copper.  Then an embossed layer to keep with the theme.  Then it was distressed for some added texture and done!

Here's what I used:
Paper:  Gina K. black
Ink:  Versamark
Stamps:  Tim Holtz Reindeer Games
All the other stuff:  Zing copper embossing powder, heat gun, embossing buddy, Big Shot Pro, Tim Holtz Sheet Music embossing folder, distressing tool, adhesives

Add a Little Dazzle/Altenew Blog Hop

altenew blog hop
It’s time for the  Add a Little Dazzle and Altenew Blog Hop!  We are so excited to be joining forces with this amazing company that has a beautiful line of stamps.  Join us today as both companies share some amazing inspiration using their stamps and Add a Little Dazzle Craft Metal Sheets.

I added embossing paste to my card base with a stencil.  Didn't want nice clean lines, so I used my palette knife to make little marks in the paste and spread it around a bit before it dried.  Then I placed the stencil over it again, rubbed Versamark ink here and there all over it and then heat embossed with the same embossing powder you see on the focal image.  Didn't want complete coverage...just hit and miss.
And, speaking of the focal image, it's been stamped with Versamark onto vellum and heat embossed.  I used it for the hearts too.  I stamped a small piece of the Scarlet Red craft metal sheet with Stazon and allowed it to dry. Then, I ran it through my Big Shot Pro with an embossing folder to get even more texture...cool look right?
A simple stamped sentiment (love this set from Altenew!) and done!
Here's what I used:
Paper:  Bazzill Marshmallow
Ink:  Stazon, Versamark and Versafine Onyx Black
Stamps:  Altenew Lace Up and Label Love
All the other stuff:  Scarlet Red craft metal sheet, Big Shot Pro, SU! Lattice embossing folder, Hero Arts Tweed stencil, embossing paste, palette knife, Zing Leaf embossing powder, heat gun, SU! heart punches

Watermelon Leaves

Monday, August 11, 2014

Well, I seem to excel at being behind these days.  I've been taking following the Stretch Yours Stamps 2 class from Online Card Classes .  I say more following, as this is my first practice piece and it started a week ago!!!  Life has been getting in the way of stamping again, and I expect that for the foreseeable future.

The incomparable Debby Hughes showed us some wonderful techniques in random stamping today.  Suffice it to say that my first ummm 12 or so tries were not exactly stellar.  This is more what I had in mind, but it's still going to take some practice.

And, since I haven't played with the CAS challenge over at Splitcoast in quite some time, thought it was high time for that!  The challenge is to use watermelon colors on your card, so that's how I chose my color palette today.

Once the stamping was complete (I used the kissing technique), I added a die cut sentiment in black, then a smattering of sequins and done!  I absolutely adore the font used for that sentiment don't you?

Here's what I used:
Paper:  Nina Solar White
Ink:  Hero Arts Bubble Gum, Pale Tomato, Lime Green, and Forever Green
Stamps:  Avery Elle Modern Leaves and WPlus9 Borders and Backgrounds
All the other stuff:  Lil' Inker Smile word die, Simon Says Stamp Assorted Moonshine sequins, Tombow adhesive

Challenges:

Add a Little Dazzle/Lawn Fawn Blog Hop (Day 5)

Friday, August 8, 2014

lawn fawn blog hop
It’s time for Day 5 of the  Add a Little Dazzle and Lawn Fawn Blog Hop!  Both design teams have joined forces to bring you a week of stamp and Add a Little Dazzle Craft Metal Sheet inspiration.  The last day of  an amazing week of projects!
I am a lover of all things leaves...lol.  Seriously don't you love the shape and colors of leaves?  I've used Lawn Fawn's fabulous Stitched Leaves Lawn Cuts for my card today.  They cut the Add a Little Dazzle craft metal sheets beautifully!  And, as you can see I've taken liberties with my leaf colors...

The leaves were cut in the Polished Purple, Outrageously Orange and Baby Blue craft metal sheets.  I did a split sentiment treatment using Milo's ABCs for the "happy", die cut the Scripty Thanks, and then used the omitting technique for the "giving"...it's part of the "thanksgiving " sentiment from the Happy Feast set.

Now, you're likely thinking...wow, Lee-Anne's got a major jump on Thanksgiving right?  So before we go any further...I'm Canadian, and our Thanksgiving is early October...well before my wonderful American friends and relatives celebrate.
Had so much fun on this collaboration...hope you enjoyed it my sweet friends...

Add a Little Dazzle/Lawn Fawn Blog Hop (Day 3)

Wednesday, August 6, 2014

It’s time for Day 3 of the  Add a Little Dazzle and Lawn Fawn Blog Hop and Dazzling Diva Challenge #37!  Both design teams have joined forces to bring you a week of stamping and Add a Little Dazzle Craft Metal Sheet inspiration.  What an amazing week of projects!

Just like interior design, it's easy to start the card making process with a jumping off point.  Mine...the twine I recently received as a freebie in a recent Lawn Fawn order :)  Started out with a die cut piece of designer paper. Then I added the dots with a stencil and some Distress Paint.  Didn't want careful and perfect, just some dots on my paper.  At this point, I added the twine.

The flower has been made with an Add A Little Dazzle craft metal sheet in Pretty Peacock.  It's been cut three times and two of the layers were dry embossed.  I added some Inka Gold to the embossed layers and then started bending and playing with the different petals.  Once that was done, I used a piercing tool through all three layers and added the brad.  It was originally clear, but I wanted to change the color to lime green, so colored it with a Copic.

Love the fun font for the "thanks" die from Lawn Fawn!  Simply die cut it in black and added it to the banner.  Then finished by stamping the rest of the sentiment...also in black.  Put it all together and done!

Here's what I used:
Paper:  Bazzill Marshmallow White, SU! Basic Black and an unknown piece of Basic Grey designer paper
Ink:  Versafine Onyx Black
Stamps:  Lawn Fawn A Good Apple
All the other stuff:  Big Shot Pro, Lawn Fawn Scripty Thanks Lawn Cuts, MFT Fishtail Banner, Add a Little Dazzle Pretty Peacock craft metal sheet, Tim Holtz Tattered Florals die, Tim Holtz Bubble Wrap embossing folder, Viva Inka Gold in Lava Green, Lawn Fawn Trimmings cord, dimensional foam adhesive, misc. rhinestone brad, Copic YG25 marker,  Ranger Glossy Accents, Simon Says Stamp Large Dots stencil, Picket Fence Distress Paint
