Dancing to the Beat of My Own Drum

Wednesday, March 6, 2013

The title of my post today is definitely how I feel about my art these days.  I am dancing to the beat of my own drum...stretching my creativity...trying different mediums, different colors...  Some experiments work out and some don't; but if you don't try you'll never know what you can do right?

If you look really closely you can indeed see the sketch challenge from Splitcoast that I followed rather loosely today:
Instructions:
1)  make a card base in peach and add a layer of deep turquoise
2)  take a slightly smaller piece of watercolor paper and using the Cell Theory stencil, add Distress Paints randomly across the entire page, in this case I used four different paints
3)  dry with heat gun to set the paint...this is really important because once it's heat set...it's totally permanent
4)  place a butterfly stencil on the page and spray with Dylusions Fresh Lime Ink Spray
5)  dry with heat gun
6)  add Victorian Velvet and Tumbled Glass Distress Stains randomly on page
7)  place chevron stencil on page and ink with Pine Needles Distress Ink to give the illusion of the third layer in the sketch
8)  the smallest rectangle is from my stash...another experiment with the Dylusions Spray Inks.
9)  dry emboss it with a Spellbinder's circle die, stencil on the flowers in the Pine Needles Distress Ink, and rub some Picket Fence Distress Stain in the center to lighten it slightly
10)  heat set and then stamp the sentiment in Versafine Onyx Black
11) scatter some colored rhinestones throughout the entire from of the card

Products used:
Paper:  SU! Peach Parfait, Not Quite Navy and watercolor paper
Ink:  Pine Needles Distress Ink and Versafine Onyx Black
Stamps:  Paper Smooches
All the other stuff:  TCW Mini Cell Theory stencil,  Wild Honey Distress Paint, Spiced Marmalade Distress Paint, Victorian Velvet Distress Paint, Spun Sugar Distress Paint, Donna Downey Chevron Grunge stencil, TCW Mini Flutterby stencil, TCW Mini Cornflowers stencil, Dylusions Fresh Lime Ink Spray, Victorian Velvet Distress Stain, Tumbled Glass Distress Stain, Picket Fence Distress Stain, heat gun, Spellbinder's circle die, Big Shot Pro, sponges, misc. rhinestones

What will you do today to stretch your creativity?
